Starting point
Shopping behavior in Thai society has changed as people tend to buy things online rather than going to stores, whether it's food, household items, or home decorations. This results in packaging waste such as plastic bags, cardboard boxes, or foam. So the question is, if this waste is single-use waste, how can we extend the life of those items?
Concept
Flappack was born from the idea of finding a way to deal with furniture and chair boxes when they reach customers, which is to increase the brand’s value by expanding the use of packaging. The brand therefore took the issue of leftover plastic bags in households to use because it noticed the physical characteristics of plastic bags that are flexible, allowing them to change shape according to pressure. This led to the idea of modifying the packaging boxes into cushions that could be used with our chairs in the future, and also reducing the number of plastic bags stored waiting to be reused.
Design
The structure is inspired by the Pillow pack box that uses the curvature of paper to create a shape similar to a pillow. Therefore, the curvature can be set to support the spine for relaxation. The plastic bag insert is adapted from the technique of Thai fishing equipment. The principle is to make the entrance larger than the exit. When the plastic bag goes inside, it will expand. With this method, we do not need to make a cover-opener. The locking of the box relies on the properties of the paper by overlapping it together. Therefore, no glue or tape is used. When customers want to donate plastic bags, they can enter the recycling system conveniently. Just open the box and take out the plastic bag. The graphic design will be on the same side, including the folding method, product label, and pillow pattern, so that the original production cost can be used.
